SHERPA/RoMEO API Workshop

1st September 2010 - Edinburgh

The RoMEO API is a machine-to-machine interface that lets programs query the RoMEO database of publishers' open access archiving policies and to incorporate the results in applications. In this workshop, you will learn how the API works, and how people have been exploiting it to improve their local services. You will also hear how RoMEO is being re-engineered and how this may affect the API. You will be encouraged to let the RoMEO team know how you would like the next major upgrade API to look.

This free event is being organised in partnership with SHERPA, and has been scheduled as a pre-event for RepoFringe 2010, which follows on the 2nd & 3rd September.

SHERPA/RoMEO is the database of scholarly publishers' open access policies that is used by repository managers and academics worldwide to check the archiving rights for their publications.

The Applications Programmmers' Interface (API) is being used:

  • to check archiving rights automatically in repository software during the deposition process
  • to create national and foreign language versions of RoMEO
  • to merge RoMEO data with local information
  • etc.

This workshop brings together people with an interest in the SHERPA/RoMEO API; outlining the purpose of the API, progress and plans for development; Presenting user case studies; discussing users' needs and priorities; and helping set the direction of developments.

To prepare for the workshop, delegates will be invited to participate in an online survey regarding their thoughts about the future API.

Doing it differently

27 Oct 2010 - Sheffield Cathedral

This one day conference includes a rich variety of speakers, each of whom will present an insight into 'doing it differently'. It provides a unique opportunity to hear about alterntative approaches to repository-like functions, open access and the general field of improving research communications. There is no one uniform approach and each of the speakers will cover very different projects, ideas and services; including Mendeley, Xpert, Kultur and SNEEP as well as reflections on using blogs for scholarly communications and iTunesU for learning resources.
