Research in the open: How mandates work in practice

The Repositories Support Project is delighted to announce that presentations from last week's prestigious event, Research in the open: How mandates work in practice are now available on the RSP website.

This one-day meeting brought together speakers and delegates from a wide range of backgrounds to analyse and explore the themes and considerations surrounding mandating open access to research outputs.

The event was held in the light and airy Wren Room at the Royal Institute of British Architects in Portland Place, London. Organised in conjunction with the Research Information Network (RIN) the meeting gave delegates plenty of chance to meet one another and catch up with colleagues over lunch on the balcony.

Speakers included representative from UK research funders such as the Wellcome Trust and ESRC, as well as from HEFCE itself. These presentations were complemented by in informative presentations from Charles Oppenheim of Loughborough University who spoke about the recent 'Houghton Report' and his university's institutional mandate. Paul Ayris of University College London announced and spoke about his institution's forthcoming policies.

There was plenty of opportunity for delegates to ask questions of each of the speakers, and the day concluded with a panel discussion, with speakers able to answer the many questions the audience had.
