Digital Commons is the most used and widely recognised hosted repository platform. This service is licensed by the Berkeley Electronic Press and powered by its own bepress software. It is providing a service for associations, consortia, universities and colleges to showcase their scholarly output that includes the capacity to publish their own journal titles within their repository through its online publishing facility.

1. On the main repository

  • Support for qualified Dublin Core metadata

  • Support for "corporate" authors where authorship that does not identify contributors by name.

2. On the author's own content-based SelectedWorks Web pages

  • Updated submission workflow, including being able to announce a paper to their mailing list
  • Authors to send invitations to colleagues that they would like to see join their subscriber list
  • Support for related files in addition to the main object.

  • Digital Commons is an annual subscription service on a scale according to size of institution
  • All training, hosting, publishing and customisation charges are included in the subscription
  • Usual contract is for 12 months and can be cancelled at any renewal point without penalty.
