Reviewing Re-use Policies

In theory, search engines such as Google, OAIster, etc should be governed by a repository's re-use policies as to what information they are allowed to harvest from the repository. It follows therefore that poorly-defined re-use policies could adversely affect a repository's showing in these search services. Once you have a reasonable amount of content available, it may help to check the performance of your repository in the popular search engines, and to review the finer points of your policies.

Repository administrators and managers may find it helpful to use the OpenDOAR Policy Tool to help formulate their repository's re-use policies, generate a 'Policies' web page, and add policies to the repository's configuration for interrogation by OAI-PMH
